The Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners square off for a spot in the ALCS in the only MLB matchup of the day. My Tigers vs. Mariners player props for ALDS Game 5 highlight what should be a dramatic, win-or-go-home showdown.

First pitch from T-Mobile Park in Seattle is set for 8:08 p.m. ET (FOX).

With Tarik Skubal taking the mound, Detroit enters as a -125 favorite to reach the ALCS for the first time in 12 years. The Mariners, meanwhile, haven’t advanced that far since 2001 but could emerge as the AL's favorite in the World Series odds with a win tonight. My MLB picks examine three players who will significantly impact the result of today's game.

💰 Best player prop bets for Tigers vs. Mariners Game 5

Our MLB player prop odds tool shows the best odds for every market across legal sportsbooks in your area.

⬇️  Tarik Skubal Under 9.5 strikeouts (-144) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I get it. Nobody wants to fade a likely back-to-back Cy Young winner. But interestingly enough, Skubal has had to work a bit harder against the Mariners this season.

Skubal has faced Seattle three times this year, including the Game 2 start. He’s allowed nine runs on 15 hits in 17 2/3 innings. He’s recorded 22 strikeouts, failing to clear this mark in all three outings.

The Tigers will certainly trust their ace as much as possible, but this is still a winner-take-all game. Managers get more aggressive with their bullpen approach in these spots.  Ballpark Pal’s model projects 8.13 strikeouts for Skubal, providing some cushion on this Under.

And, if you're not interesting in fading the ace tonight like me, my colleague Mike Spector might have some picks that interest you in his best MLB player props today.

🔥  Julio Rodriguez Over 1.5 hits, runs, and RBIs (+140) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you want to jump on the Mariners’ bandwagon with me, Julio Rodriguez is a +3500 long shot to win World Series MVP. Seattle’s odds of reaching the World Series will greatly improve with a home upset today.

Rodriguez, who ranked ninth in expected slugging over the back half of the regular season among all playoff players, has recorded four hits, three RBIs, and one run through four postseason games. He has an expected slugging of .624 in 11 career at-bats against Skubal.

This is a spot for stars to make plays, so I’ll take the +140 odds for Rodriguez to deliver, netting $14 on a $10 wager.

🐅  Riley Greene to hit a home run (+550) ⭐⭐⭐

Riley Greene helped keep Detroit’s season alive by hitting a home run in a 9-3 win during Game 4. He now has seven hits in as many games this postseason, including two doubles and one homer.

Of all the players slated to be in today’s lineups, Greene has the best odds of hitting a home run, according to Ballpark Pal. He’s projected for 0.24 homers, which would indicate a fair price is closer to +320.

Even in a low-scoring environment, someone will come through with a big hit. I’ll take the value on Greene being that player.

And I'm not the only one on the team backing Greene: he also features in our best home run predictions today.
