Super Bowl Odds: Chiefs Soar After Week 6 SNF Win Over Lions

Kansas City got back to .500 with a critical win over visiting Detroit on Sunday Night Football, and oddsmakers took notice.

It appears the reports of the Kansas City Chiefs' death have been greatly exaggerated, as the defending AFC champions are back among the favorites by the latest Super Bowl odds after a win on Sunday Night Football.

The Chiefs erased a first-half deficit to beat the Detroit Lions and earn their spot among the Super Bowl favorites following that Week 6 win. Kansas City has the shortest odds of any AFC team besides the Buffalo Bills, who enter Monday Night Football as the outright favorites to win the Super Bowl.

Meanwhile, the Lions are still the NFC favorites at most shops after Sunday's 30-17 loss in Kansas City, though the Green Bay Packers are on their heels as the early NFC North leaders with a head-to-head win under their belt.

🔴 Chiefs rising after SNF win

You could feel a shift in the Chiefs' offense since Xavier Worthy's return to the field two weeks ago, and they posted their most efficient showing yet last week despite the loss in Jacksonville.

That side did its job in Sunday's win - Patrick Mahomes finished with 257 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Hollywood Brown and one to Worthy - but Kansas City's defense stole headlines after holding the Lions to 5-for-11 on third down and 0-for-2 on fourth down with fewer than 300 total yards.

We know the ceiling of a group that has reached the AFC Championship round seven straight years and won three of the last six Super Bowls. Now, after shaking off the first 0-2 start of the Mahomes era, this could be the last time we see the Chiefs odds hovering around 10/1 again.

🦁 Lions stumble, still NFC favorite

I wouldn't make too much of Sunday's road loss for the Lions, who were decimated by injuries in their secondary and paid the price in Kansas City.

There's a reason Detroit was the underdog to win in Week 6 even while sitting among the title favorites, and that hasn't changed after an admittedly uninspiring showing from Jared Goff (203 yards), Jahmyr Gibbs (65), and Amon-Ra St. Brown (45) with the NFC North lead at stake.

This is still one of the best teams in the NFC, and oddsmakers clearly agree with that assessment, though FanDuel has the Lions slotted behind the rival Packers after the latter took the division lead with Detroit's loss. That's the best shop to buy the (slight) dip on Dan Campbell's team.
